HULL CITY will kick off their first season in the top flight without midfielder Jay-Jay Okocha after the Nigerian playmaker was released by manager Phil Brown.

The Tigers had the option of taking up a further year on the 34-year-old's contract after it expired at the end of last season, but have decided against it.

Okocha managed only 11 appearances following his switch to Yorkshire from Qatar last August due to a series of niggling injuries.

David Livermore is also heading out of the exit door at the KC Stadium, although his departure was more expected with the midfielder having been largely frozen out of the pitcure since January.

The former Millwall midfielder had a clause in his contract stating that if he played 25 times or more he would automatically be entitled to a new one-year deal. Livermore's final appearance against Sheffield United in April as an emergency central defender was his 24th of 2007-08 for the Tigers.

Hull have also released youngsters Brewster Frizzell and Frank Belt.
