Swansea City v Hull City
Carling Cup
DEAN WINDASS will be handed his first appearance of the season for Hull tonight with the incentive of playing his way into Premier League action.
The 39-year-old netted the goal that earned the Tigers a first promotion to the top flight in the Championship play-off final but he is still waiting for his first competitive action of the season after being an unused substitute in City's 2-1 win at home to Fulham and Saturday's 1-1 draw at Blackburn Rovers.
That will change tonight when manager Phil Brown will rest several of his players for the Carling Cup second round tie.
Wth Marlon King unable to play in the next game against Wigan due to the terms of his loan switch, it means Windass could make his belated 100th appearance in the Premier League this weekend.
Tigers manager Brown confirmed: "Those who have not played so far will get their chance. We play Swansea and I will guarantee those who didn't play on Saturday will play."
Brown's decision to keep Windass on the bench in both games has been vindicated by an encouraging haul of four points, as was the omission of Nicky Barmby in favour of Craig Fagan at Ewood Park after the former England international had started against Fulham.
Brown added: "I left Nicky out but he was totally understanding. He knew the combative midfield that Blackburn possess meant we had to be physical against them.
"The bigger picture is the development of the club and the development of the individuals playing the game. Guys such as Dean and Nicky are not wet behind the ears, one is 39 and the other is 34.
"They are from Hull and understand the long-term future of the football club is all that matters."
Last six games: Swansea City WWLWWW, Hull City LWWWWD.
