LEEDS UNITED coach Steve Staunton has been charged with improper conduct by the Football Association following a bust-up at Wembley.

The former Republic of Ireland manager allegedly clashed with doping officials soon after his club's League One play-off final defeat against Doncaster Rovers six weeks ago.

Staunton has been given until July 16 to respond to the charge and faces the possibility of a fine or even a touchline ban if guilty.

Barnsley goalkeeper Luke Steele has been fined £1,000 and warned about his future conduct for breaking rules relating to shirt sponsorship.

Steele ignored several warnings from the FA about the need to remove an unauthorised advertising logo from the collar of a shirt worn under his goalkeeping jersey. He was eventually punished for commiting the offence in two games, against Hull City and Leicester City.

It is understood that Steele, who has joined Barnsley on a permanent basis this summer from West Brom, is the first player to be punished for an offence of this nature.

Barnsley midfielder Simon Heslop has joined Rochdale on trial with a view to a loan deal.

Doncaster Rovers have handed a trial to defender Jamie Lovegrove who has been released by Crawley Town.

York City manager Colin Walker is running the rule over former Bradford City striker David Brown.

Leeds United Ladies FC are to change their name to Leeds Carnegie Ladies FC from the start of next season.

The club severed their links with Leeds United three seasons ago when new chairman Ken Bates pulled the plug on a £35,000-a-year sponsorship deal.

Having entered into a formal partnership with Leeds Met last year – the first of its kind between a university and a national Women's Premier League club – the club their already benefitting from world-class coaching and sports science facilities.

Now, after finishing third in the Women's Premier League and runners up in the Women's FA Cup final, the club will extend their link with the university who also sponsor rugby, cricket, and netball sides in the city.
