Leeds United v Hereford United

STEVE STAUNTON has urged Leeds United to heed the warning of what happened in this week's Carling Cup third round ties when taking on bottom club Hereford today.
The United assistant believes the unpredictability of football was underlined by the likes of Manchester City and Aston Villa crashing out at the hands of teams from the Football League.

Staunton's warning is timely ahead of the meeting with a Bul
ls side who sprung their own FA Cup shock at Elland Road last season by knocking out Dennis Wise's side in a first-round replay.

He said: "They are bottom but they will be up for it like every team is when they come to Elland Road. We will probably have to break down nine or 10 men behind the ball.

"It doesn't matter whether you are bottom or top of the league, it will be a very difficult game because everyone wants to beat Leeds United.

"You only have to look at some of the results we had in the week. We saw Manchester City get beat at Brighton, QPR beat Aston Villa, and a couple of others. It showed what can happen in football and is why we have to make sure we are not complacent."

Manager Gary McAllister is expected to revert to his first choice XI today after making eight changes for the Cup victory at home to Hartlepool.

The likes of top scorer Jermaine Beckford, Luciano Becchio and Fabian Delph will return after being rested.

Victory would see Leeds claim a sixth consecutive win in all competitions for the first time in nine years and captain Frazer Richardson has revealed his own reasons to ensure Hereford fail to pick up their first away point.

He said: "When we played at Hereford in the Cup (last November) I was ill with food poisoning so I kept away. Then we lost the replay at Elland Road, so I don't have very fond memories of Hereford. Hopefully, we can put those memories to rest."
