Marlon King is in contention for a starting role as a lone striker after joining on a season long loan deal this week, though the former Watford man will face competition from Dean Windass.

Fulham will be without record signing Andy Johnson after the England striker suffered a thigh injury.

Phil Brown: "I am more than pleased with what has happened in the summer at the club. I know the team I expect to put out this Saturday and we will have quite a strong bench as well."

Championship
Wolves v Sheffield Wednesday

Team news: Dutch winger Etienne Esajas could start for the Owls after impressing in the midweek Carling Cup defeat to Rotherham United.

Marcus Tudgay (thigh) is struggling and Leon Clarke will start in the absence of injured striker Akpo Sodje (knee). Striker Francis Jeffers and defender Frank Simek and still recovering from ankle problems.

Brian Laws: "We're going into the game with confidence but we know Wolves have spent well in the summer and you can see their strength in depth."

Sheffield United v QPR

Team news: Winger David Cotterill is set to return to the starting line-up as Blades manager Kevin Blackwell contemplates changes to the side that lost at Birmingham City on the opening day of the season.

Both Matthew Spring and Lee Hendrie pushed their claims by impressing in the Carling Cup.

Striker James Beattie (knee) and winger Keith Gillespie (ankle) are ruled out and winger David Carney is away on Olympic duty with Australia.

Kevin Blackwell: "We earned respect last season and now we have to live up to that."

Barnsley v Coventry City

Team news: Barnsley midfielder Bobby Hassell has joined the growing injury list at Oakwell after suffering an ankle injury in training.

Summer signing Mounir El Haimour is ruled out with a calf strain, defender Marciano Van Homoet is both suspended and injured (groin), and winger Jamal Campbell-Ryce is nursing a broken ankle and elbow injury.

Three players - goalkeeper Heinz Muller, midfielder Anderson, and striker Michael Coulson - are still recovering from cruciate knee ligament operations. Barnsley hope to receive international clearance for midfielder Hugo Colace to make his debut.

Simon Davey: "We have to start well at home and get a good result. We had a great record here last season."

Doncaster Rovers v Cardiff City

Team news: Rovers manager Sean O'Driscoll is likely to revert to the side that opened the season with a win at Derby after making five changes for the midweek Carling Cup defeat at Notts County.

Striker Darren Byfield and winger Jason Price are again ruled out but resume full training next week. Midfielder Sean McDaid and defender Gordon Greer are the long-term absentees.

Sean O'Driscoll: "What happened on Tuesday night brought us crashing down to earth - but hopefully it will be a good thing and we will respond against Cardiff."

League One
Leeds United v Oldham Athletic

Team news: Robert Snodgrass is the main injury worry for Leeds after the Scot picked up a hamstring injury during Tuesday night's carling Cup win at Chester City.

David Prutton is, however, set to return after sitting out the midweek trip to the Deva Stadium with an Achilles problem. Jermaine Beckford will start up front alongside Enoch Showunmi.

Stan Ternent: "It is all about balancing the squad to create competition for places in as many areas as possible."

League Two
Morecambe v Rotherham United

Team news: Millers defender Marc Joseph serves a one match ban after being sent off in the midweek Carling Cup victory over Sheffield Wednesday.

Dale Tonge and Jamie Green are contenders to come into the side. Striker Marc Burchill is hoping to make his debut after shaking off toe and groin injuries and midfielder Michael Cummins (ankle) faces a fitness test.

Mark Robins: "We have made in-roads into the points deduction and now I would like to finish off a good week with a good performance at Morecambe."

Macclesfield Town v Bradford City
Team news: Joe Colbeck is available after being forced to sit out the opening two games of the season through suspension, but Chris Brandon is still not ready for his debut after only returning to training earlier this week.

Manager Stuart McCall has one selection dilemma with Michael Boulding, Peter Thorne and Barry Conlon all vying for a starting role as City look to make it two wins from two league games.

Stuart McCall: "To lose like we did at Huddersfield hurt but the key is how we bounce back against Macclesfield."
