THREE-year-old Theo Bowens is all set for the British transplant games in Sheffield thanks to fleet-footed nurses at St James's hospital in Leeds.
Theo has already undergone two failed liver transplants and is now awaiting a third. Thanks to the support of his carers in the hospital's children's liver unit, Theo and children like him will be attending the games as part of the Leeds Little Livers team in August.

The games, first held in 1978, are a chance for transplant patients to socialise and demonstrate their fitness in events including canoeing, archery, golf, football, badminton and swimming. But there are costs involved in sending a participant and their family.

That is why senior sister Celia McKenzie and staff nurse Jenny Hemsley-Flint are taking part in the Jane Tomlinson Run for All, raising money towards the amounts already achieved by participant families.

"Going to the games cost about £800 to £1,000 per family and we like to pay for them to go so everyone has a chance," said Celia.

"We have had funding from other areas, but the run was our chance to give something to Leeds Little Livers."

Theo's mum, Rebecca Bowens, said: "I think they'll do fantastically. It's a chance for the children to socialise with others who are in a similar situation."
