Leeds Carnegie 57 Coventry 5: Biggs hat-trick maintains Leeds's promotion course

Leeds Carnegie's promotion push remained on course at Headingley Carnegie as they ran in nine tries in blustery conditions to maintain their five-point lead at the top of the table with a 57-5 win over lowly Coventry.
Record-breaking winger Tom Biggs was the man of the hour with a hat-trick as the home side scored over 50 points for the third home game running.
The try bonus point was secured by half-time with South African Hendre Fourie bagging the all-important fourth to continue his impressive try-scoring start to the season.
Leeds came out fired up and quickly ran in two tries inside the first five minutes.
Biggs danced his way through the defence to open the scoring after two minutes making a mockery of some lacklustre defence from the visitors before Jonny Hepworth threw a dummy 20 metres out and then cut back inside to go through to score between the posts.
Coventry did manage a reply with a try from Donavan Sanders but it was a brief respite in otherwise one-way traffic.
Biggs crossed for his second after 21 minutes when he showed skills more akin to a slalom skier than a rugby player by stepping round five would-be tacklers before crashing over.
Di Bernardo added the conversion to make it 19-5.
Fourie then crossed for his eighth try in seven appearances this season.
Having defended for a long spell, the home side managed to get some possession and good hands in midfield saw the ball fed to Fourie 20 metres out.
He appeared to be tackled five metres short but his sheer power and determination took the South African over the line. Di Bernardo added the conversion to make it 26-5.
Despite four tries having been scored, there were also a catalogue of missed chances in the first half and Carnegie visibly sharpened up their game after the break.
Danny Paul crossed for the first try of the second half only a minute after the re-start.
Rob Rawlinson and Leigh Hinton combined to set the move up before winger Richard Welding cut in off his wing and looked certain to score himself. He was stopped short of the line, however, but Paul was on hand to cross for the try.
Biggs then completed his hat trick after 47 minutes, the first of his Leeds career, after picking a great angle of running to come in and take a short pass of Bedford and go through untouched by the post.
Carnegie then scored their simplest try of the afternoon using quick passing to unlock the Coventry defence and set up an overlap out wide which Welding this time exploited when Hinton unselfishly passed having drawn the last man.
Two minutes later, Hepworth crossed for his second try of the game after a clever offload from replacement Scott Barrow and he sprinted in untouched from 20 metres out as the scoreboard continued to tick over. Di Bernardo converted the latter to bring up the half century.
The home side continued to press home their advantage and Welding concluded the scoring with his second and his side's ninth try following a marauding run upfield by Kearnan Myall.
The giant second row galloped up field carrying the ball in one hand before setting the ball back in the tackle for Welding to pick up and go over. Di Bernardo added the conversion to make the final score of 57-5.
Leeds travel to Esher next week for what should be another routine victory however they then face crucial back-to-back home games against Doncaster and Bedford in November followed by a trip to Cornish Pirates.
That is when their title credentials will be really tested and when the skills that are being honed in the current run of easy wins will have to be at their most sharp.
