NEIL BACK has fired a warning shot at Leeds Carnegie's closest challengers – 'no matter how many games you win, we'll win more'.

The broadside is aimed at second-placed Exeter Chiefs who have been reeling in the one-time runaway leaders.

Over the last three weeks, while Leeds were forced to dig deep to get past Doncaster, Bedford and the Cornish Pirates, missing out on the bonus point on each occasion, Exeter have claimed maximum points and halved the deficit from six points to three.

Exeter's only defeat in 12 matches this season came in the second week against Leeds, and although the south-westerners have since gone from strength to strength, Carnegie head coach Back is refusing to let the chasing pack worry him.

"Last summer certain sides would have positioned themselves to go up to the Premiership this summer," said Back, "and Exeter are one of those sides.

"They have invested well in their squad and are doing really well.

"But I feel the pressure is on them to keep winning games and to keep pace with us at the top.

"What Exeter do doesn't concern me. If we weren't creating opportunities I'd be worried, but we are, and we have 15 players on the pitch and 22 in the squad who all want to play, and those on the outside are eagerly pushing them on.

"We are not looking at anyone chasing us, we just concentrate on winning all our games. That is our challenge."

Winning has become increasingly difficult in recent weeks for Leeds as Doncaster, Bedford and the Cornish Pirates last Sunday have all tested the resolve of the unbeaten league leaders.

The Knights dominated the first half before allowing Leeds to fight back in the second, then Back's men failed to break down a stubborn Bedord defence before, on Sunday, Carnegie were clinging on at the end to a precious four points.

"We learn about our squad and ourselves with every game and every training session," added Back.

"Where we were earlier in the season we wouldn't have been able to cope with the pressure we were put under.

"We'd have lost our composure and our shape. But we are developing as a squad and we kept our shape, our composure and our discipline and won those games.

"The win at Cornish Pirates was fantastic because that composure and shape was evident. It's a difficult place to go but to retain our unbeaten record is fantastic."

Mid-table Moseley are the visitors on Sunday, a change in pace to the three tough assignments of late, but a game that will further test the mental attitude of Back's team.

"Moseley are no different from any other side that will face us this season," added Back. "They will come here and try to knock us off the top of the league. They will look at the teams that have done well against us and try to implement those strategies."

Leeds will be without two of their key players in wing Tom Biggs and centre Rob Vickerman with both representing England Saxons in Dubai.

Leeds: Goodridge, Welding, Hepworth, Paul, Blackett, Di Bernardo, Bedford; Palaamo, Nilsen, Gomez, Lund, Pendlebury (c), D Paul, Clark, Oakley. Replacements: McGee, Rawlinson, Murphy, Fourie, Mathie, Barrow, Hinton.

Wharfedale are without a fixture in National Two, while two of Yorkshire's clubs in the National Three North are in National Trophy action.

Hull Ionians face divisional rivals Fylde while Huddersfield travel to Broadstreet of the Midlands Division.

North One leaders Hull look to continue their impressive start when they make the long trip to Nuneaton, who sit 12 places above them in the pyramid in third place in National Three North.
