Leeds Carnegie have made the surprising decision to cancel the last year of Andy Tuilagi's contract 'by mutual agreement' and release him with immediate effect.
The Samoan international, signed from Leicester last summer after spending the previous season on loan at Leeds, made just seven starts in the Premiership, but missed several matches through suspension, injury and World Cup commitments.
There are concerns about his on-field discipline and he is far from the complete player but aged just 22, he has the potential to reach Premiership standard. However, Leeds have signed a far more creative No 12 in Henry Paul and are not short of centres.
Leeds wing Tom Biggs has been named in the XV for England Saxons' Churchill Cup match against the USA in Ottawa tomorrow.
Biggs's former Leeds teammate Jordan Crane also starts, with former Wakefield prop Nick Lloyd at loose-head.
Leeds forwards Calum Clark and Scott Freer will start for England Under-20s in the Junior World Cup against Fiji at Newport tonight.
Wharfedale scrum-half James Doherty and Yorkshire stand-off Richard Wainwright are in the England Counties XV to face the USA; Otley flanker Dan Hyde is not in the 22.
