Sir, – I was in total agreement with the sentiments expressed by Bernard Dineen (Yorkshire Post, January 13) under the heading, "Time to stand firm against Saddam".
As an ex-serviceman, Royal Navy, I clearly recall the events leading up to the Second World War, and of how our government dithered and wavered while Hitler invaded and ravaged country after country in Europe.
Our failure to act in the early 1930s led to the deaths of thousands of men, women and children in the concentration camps and ghettoes.
As one who witnessed the tragedy of Poland and Dachau, I feel very strongly that the appeasement of Saddam may
well lead to further
horrors.
He should be stopped at once – let us not once again as a nation be tricked
into believing that Muslims like Saddam and his cohorts can be reasoned with.
