I READ with interest the letter from Maurice Priest (Yorkshire Post, May 2) about his npower electricity bill.
I wonder if he also gets his gas from npower and, if so, whether he has recently checked the number of units charged at the higher rate for
the last year. He might get a nasty shock.
Npower's own literature says that the total number of units ch
arged in a year, at the higher rate, will not exceed 4,573kwh.
When I checked my bill, I found that over 6,700 units had been charged.
I have been waiting, since January, for a reasonable explanation.
Uncollected rubbishFrom: Miss Gillian Parvin, Silkstone Court, Leeds.
I AM trying hard to find out what has happened to the refuse collection in the Leeds area, perhaps someone, somewhere can shed some light on the matter.
In this area, we have not had a black bin collection since April 16 and a green bin collection since March 26.
Needless to say, there are piles of refuse sacks by the bins which are regularly torn open and the contents scattered over the roads and footpaths. We pay our council tax and live in (supposedly) 21st century Britain. What is going wrong?
Hotel with eleganceFrom: Iain Morris,

WITH regard to "the age of elegance returns to Leeds" as reported by Peter Edwards (Yorkshire Post, April 29), The Ellington, a new luxury hotel for West Yorkshire, does not look anywhere near as elegant as the
Midland Hotel in Bradford where I had the pleasure of attending the re-birth of Bradford Civic Society in recent times.
Secret of marriageFrom: R Birchall,

FURTHER to the rules for a happy marriage (Yorkshire Post, May 5), they are complete piffle! From hard experience, I find there is only one golden rule.
That is, to obey one's wife to the letter and with alacrity. Life is much easier as a wimp, unless you are some kind of weird masochist.
