New look for old: house in Bardsey that just got bigger and better
What began life as a much smaller property owned by the Bramham Park estate is now a large and luxurious country house thanks to its latest makeover.
The Ferns, which is in the village of Bardsey, near Leeds, has been skilfully extended and completely updated by Dan and Sharon Walton.

“We lived in a village nearby and often walked past this house. We often said how we’d love to buy it,” says Dan.
Their chance came six years ago when it came up for sale. The 90-year-old owner had lived there all his life and the house was in need of renovation.
The Waltons took the opportunity to add a large extension and tackled everything from roofing, re-plumbing and rewiring to redecorating and installing a new kitchen and bathrooms.

Upstairs, there is a a master suite with bedroom, dressing room and en-suite bathroom, a guest bedroom with en-suite shower room, three further double bedrooms and a house bathroom. The property is approached by a gravelled driveway leading to extensive parking. There are large lawned gardens set within stone boundary walls and beyond are level paddocks with road access. In total, the grounds extend to 5.5 acres.
Dan and Sharon are selling to take on another project.
“This is the longest we have stayed anywhere but we enjoy having a property project, which is why we are moving.”
The house is in the little known conservation area of old Bardsey village and is adjacent to the duck pond and set in private grounds.
