When her holiday in the South of France was cut short, Jane Gledhill was left feeling more than a little fed-up.

But what seemed like bad luck led to her buying the perfect house in an idyllic setting.

“I had my suitcase stolen and so I came home a week early and I’m so pleased I did because my mum told me about a house she thought I’d like. I went to view it and put in an offer straight away. If I hadn’t come back from my holiday early it would’ve sold to someone else,” says Jane.

Her three storey cottage is part of a terraced row in a tranquil spot just outside Holmbridge, near Holmfirth. It is one of the most sought-after locations in the area with sensational views over Brownhill reservoir and the countryside beyond.

She has lived there for 32 years and is only selling to move next door, into what was her late mother’s house.

“She bought the house next door to me after I came to live here,” says Jane. “It is the most wonderful place and is on the edge of the Peak District National Park. In summer it feels like living next to Lake Garda and although it looks and feels remote, it is only a ten minute drive from Holmfirth.”

Over the years, Jane has modernised the property, added character and converted the attic.

Estate agent Simon Blyth describes the cottage as “welcoming and exceptionally homely with a deceptive amount of space.”

It has a sitting room, dining room, breakfast kitchen, larder and store room on the ground floor

On the first floor, there is an entrance hall, two bedrooms and a bathroom and on the second floor, there is a large studio/home office with four large Velux windows that could be utilised as a bedroom.
