This large detached home was built in 1991 but has already had a major makeover thanks to owners Nigel and Christine Cliffe.

The couple bought the house ten years ago and were attracted by the semi-rural location and the square footage, which offered plenty of space for their four children.

One of the first jobs was to combine a series of separate rooms to create one large, open-plan living space, made cosy with a new and contemporary wood-burning stove. To maximise the amount of natural light, they installed bi-fold doors and a striking glazed extension.

The extension, which now houses a dining table, was built by Clearview Doors to the couple’s own design.

“We love natural light and wanted that link with the garden so we came up with the design and Paul Oxley, the owner of Clearview made it and installed it. We chose him because he did an extension to our previous house 13 years ago,” says Nigel.

Christine took the lead when it came to interior design and every room has benefitted from new décor.

The kitchen features a central island and Luxore quartz work surfaces. The ground floor also includes the glazed extension, a utility room, separate sitting room, a games room, study with views over the gardens and a cloakroom.

Upstairs there is a luxurious main bedroom suite with a bedroom, dressing room and shower room, five further double bedrooms, one with an en-suite shower room. There is a separate house bathroom.

Outside, the property has a private driveway, which provides parking for up to six cars and this leads to a detached double garage. There is a lawned area at the front and a garden to the rear with a patio area, a seating area perfect for summer entertaining. Mature trees and shrubs surround the garden providing a good degree of privacy and a safe children’s play environment.

Nigel and Christine are now selling to downsize.

“We will be sad to leave the house because it’s been such a lovely family home but our children are growing up and we don’t need such a big place anymore,” he says. “We are looking for a lifestyle change.”
