Arts Diary: Will Marriott

Now this is a seriously weird – but possibly quite inspired – idea for a father's day present.

Bradford has recently seen the opening of a new music studio, rehearsal room – general creative musical hub – called Factory St Studios. The studio is a base for musical artists to come together and, well, be creative.

On Father's Day, however, the studio is playing host to Alex Eden, a blues artist who has played with some of the greats including Otis Grand and Muddy Waters' son Big Bill Morganfield.

On June 21, Eden will be running a special Father's Day workshop Harmonica Special, where your beloved dad will be able to learn how the play the harmonica, blues style. Probably best to book it only if you had the foresight to buy earplugs for mum on Mother's Day.

We had some very sad news this week – which you might think is irrelevant – but you really don't know how important it is to you.

Rachel Coles is a name that many of you won't know – she's the head of the press office at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds.

It's her job to make sure that we can get the interviews that you read week in, week out in Culture and act as a liaison between us and the theatre.

So when, for example, Lenny Henry is on stage at the Playhouse – she's the one who deals with the requests from all the journalists and organises the interviews. So it's often thanks to her that the Yorkshire Post gets the exclusive insights that you get to read.

We're sure her replacement will do just as fine a job, but we thought we'd say here that we'll miss her and things won't be the same without her.

And in case you're wondering, she'll be leaving the world of actors and directors to teach yoga to children – (cue jokes about dealing with more mature people and fewer tantrums in her new career, etc).

Frankly, this is shameful, but Sheffield Lyceum has come up with an interesting new marketing scheme – Bone Idol. If your cute canine craves the spotlight, he or she could be a stage star.

The theatre is running Bone Idol, a competition for all corgi owners.

Local corgi lovers can offer up their pooch to have a starring role in Roald Dahl's The BFG at the Lyceum from June 16 to 20.

This coveted canine stage role will see the pet walk on in the second half of the show with the character the Queen of England. In this very short scene, the Queen and the corgi will walk on to glorious acclaim and after a few minutes Mr Tibbs the butler walks the corgi off stage.

Spokesman Philip Strafford said: "We'll be putting the dogs through some simple obedience tests and making sure they are happy to be handled by other people. We're looking for a dog that won't be put off by the buzz of the theatre surroundings and the audience."

He also added, with a straight face: "Both owner and corgi will be invited for the final curtain call to receive a much deserved hound of applause." People are asked to register interest to info@

sheffieldtheatres.co.uk by Wednesday, June 10.

For many of us, the only chance to see Ursula Andress walking out of the sea in the white bikini in "that" scene in Dr No is on a small screen. Until now. Keighley and Skipton cinemas are wallowing in nostalgia, thanks to digital remastering, by showing classic Bond movies on Sundays throughout June. Starting on June 7 with Dr No, the programme continues with From Russia With Love on June 14, Goldfinger on June 21 and On Her Majesty's Service on June 28.
