Arts Diary: Will Marriott
Staff at Bradford Theatre found themselves in a sticky situation, when their four-foot poster of David Gest was given a crude makeover.
The poster had been put up to promote Gest's appearance in October, but someone carefully redesigned it.
A source who works at the theatre said: "It was a phallic symbol made with little bits of chewing gum so they must have gone to a lot of effort."
The poster had only managed to survive one day before being tampered with, but thankfully staff at the theatre managed to clear up the embarrassing "enhancement" before the celebrity – famed for a rather large ego – got wind of it.
Gest is set to perform at St George's Hall as part of his first UK tour later this year. Let's just hope the creative culprit has run out of chewing gum when he makes it
to Bradford.
Could you ever imagine an indie band and a brass band going well together? Well, it has finally happened and they seem to be conducting themselves rather well.
Indie band The Maccabees have joined forces with the Dodworth Colliery band to record a rousing rendition of the single Can you give It? They also recorded a brass version of Young Lions which is a track from the new album Wall of Arms.
Although you might assume that these two very different bands might clash, no-one has ended up brassed off; in fact, it was quite
the opposite.
Felix White of The Maccabees said: "It was a proper pleasure having the Dodworth Colliery band play two of our songs. It was an exciting day for everyone I think because we were all doing something completely different to what we were used to."
The single will be out on July 6, so stay tuned.
Get ready for a knockout performance at St George's Hall, Bradford with an entertaining blend of two world champions hitting the stage on July 15.
Although, given that they are known more for letting their fists do the talking, we're not so sure what will happen when the two champs get into some verbal sparring.
Boxing superstar Ricky "Hitman" Hatton will be putting on a punchy two-hour show, featuring a guest appearance from Frank Bruno in a 40-minute Q&A session.
"Having Frank Bruno on the bill as well is brilliant. Frank's an incredibly funny guy, but also knows his boxing," says Hatton.
You know when you're in the bath and you put your head under the water while you're singing and it sounds all weird? No? Just me then.
Well, if you've never done that, you'll be able to experience the sensation next week down at the I Love West Leeds Festival.
The arts festival, which opens today and runs for just over a fortnight, is holding an unusual event down at the Bramley Baths.
Artists, including local lad Joe Gilmore, have created soundscapes which will be played through special underwater speakers.
They will be played on July 10 from 6.15pm to 9.15pm at the swimming pool, so some lucky swimmers will be in for some good vibrations.
According to the organisers, sound travels four times faster under water and can be felt all over the body as well as the ears.
So throw away those ear plugs, get wet and wild, and dive right in.
