Drug issues out in the open
Local drug and alcohol services will be out on the streets of Sheffield to raise awareness of substance misuse and the problems linked with it. A marquee will be at the top of Fargate every day until Friday as part of National Tackling Drugs Week.
Visitors can pick up leaflets, talk to staff and learn about the different kinds of drugs, what they look like and how they affect people. There will also be advisers on hand who have had experience of using Sheffield's drug and alcohol services or of supporting family members with problems.
Jo Daykin-Goodall, director of Substance Misuse Strategy for Sheffield says: "If you are concerned about your own drug or alcohol use or if you are worried about someone you know and think that they may need help with their drug or alcohol problem then visit the marquee. We can arrange for you to speak to someone in confidence or you can take away information with contact details for services in the city. Work to tackle drug and alcohol problems goes on all the year round and staff are always there for people who need help or advice"
People can also talk to members of local Safer Neighbourhood Teams to find out what is being done across the city to tackle drug dealing and anti-social behaviour connected with drug or alcohol use.
As well as South Yorkshire Police, Sheffield City Council and NHS Sheffield are contributing to the week, which is co-ordinated by the Sheffield Drug and Alcohol Action Team.
