PUNK rockers Green Day may hail from the United States but they clearly have a soft spot for Yorkshire.

The band were today announced as the Saturday night headline act at this summer’s Leeds Festival.

They are already firm festival favourites, having turned in blistering shows at the event in 2001 and 2004.

Now they are being tipped to produce more of the same for revellers at Bramham Park over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

Ian De-Whytell, boss of Leeds-based Crash Records, said: “The news of Green Day headlining will go down very well with Leeds Festival fans.

“It’s almost 10 years since they were on the bill so there will be lots of people getting the opportunity to see them for the first time.”

Other acts announced this evening included Nine Inch Nails, The Lumineers, Editors, Frank Turner, White Lies, Brand New and Tame Impala.

Johnny Marr will play the festival’s NME/Radio 1 stage on the Sunday night.

Biffy Clyro and Eminem had already been confirmed as Friday and Sunday night main stage headline acts respectively.

Weekend festival tickets cost £202.50 while day tickets are £90. The festival has been held at Bramham Park each year since 2003.
