Review: Olly Murs ***
Sheffield Motorpoint Arena
X-Factor runner-up Olly Murs is packing out stadiums on this first arena tour. The 28-year-old is very popular with the female of the species, and ear-splitting screams accompany him as he sings and dances his way through his two ska-pop-esque albums, especially when he breaks into hits Please Don’t Let Me Go and Dance With Me Tonight.
A great singer who clearly enjoys himself, the crowd are on his side – not least when he splits his trousers to reveal white boxer shorts. The wardrobe malfunction threatens to tip the overexcited atmosphere into bedlam.
To tackle the potential problem of not having enough material, Murs covers hits by the likes of Madness and James Brown, and the show is rounded off with the reggae-lite Heart Skips A Beat.
