Team saddle up for the long haul in aid of hospice funds
A team of mountain bikers are going to attempt to ride the equivalent distance of Land's End to John O'Groats in 11 hours – a feat that normally takes a week.
On Saturday, Tim Ferguson, David Maw and friends are taking part in the challenge at Fitness First Keighley, to raise money for Manorlands hospice.
"The reason we are doing it is two-fold," explains Tim. "Firstly as with all hospices, Manorlands do an incredible job in difficult circumstances and rely very heavily on charitable donations, secondly for myself and David, we unfortunately both have sad personal stories connecting us to Manorlands.
"My wife died last year leaving myself and my now four-year-old daughter, we made use of Manorlands on several occasions, whereas David expects his mum to be in Manorlands at some point in the not too distant future."
The challenge in question is no mean feat, it requires the cyclists to maintain each of the four bikes at an average speed of 33kmph for 11 hours.
They hope to raise 1,400 – 1 for every kilometre.
