What Kate did next to be stunning

With the Baftas taking place this Sunday, Stephanie Smith has tips on how to get ready for your close-up.

Lancome is the official beauty brand for the BAFTAs again this year, and as the face of Lancome, Kate Winslet, right, always looks flawless and stunning.

Try La Touche Pro, which perfectly conceals the complexion irregularities, and blends in beautifully. It costs 22.50, on the Lancome counters.

Meanwhile, make-up artist to the stars Lisa Eldridge has some great secrets on how to get camera ready.

Nowadays Blu-ray and High Definition technology shows every blemish and wrinkle – but Lisa's tips work just as well for wedding videos.

"Skin care is so important," she says. "You can't expect make up to look good if you have dry skin, lumps, bumps or patchy areas. Make sure you always cleanse, exfoliate and moisturise.

"Perfect your face for make-up by smoothing some primer over the skin. With foundation, there is no need to wear a mask, but make sure you get into all the nooks and crannies."

"Unless you apply the right colour foundation to give a uniform look, everything will appear very unnatural – so when looking at your skin bear in mind the colour of your face, neck and any other skin that is showing."

She adds: "Silica powder is a godsend because it becomes completely invisible on the skin and no build-up is visible."

As for eyes, she says: "Really paint between the roots of the lashes. Get your mascara brush right down to the roots – this is where you need lots of definition."

When applying lip liner it's good to smile with your lips closed, then buff around the edges with a lip pencil.

Finally, less is always more – gloss and lipstick look best when you don't use too much.

Eyes go ethereal this season, with soft shades creating a sublime delicate look. Boots No 7 collection of gemstone-inspired colours are kind to skin with semi-precious stone and mineral complexes, and gentle shimmer in hues of pink, blue, purple and green. Use on their own for a light sheen, or blend and build for a deeper, bolder look. The Natural Radiance Eye Palette is 13.50 for block of four domed mineral shades. At Boots now.

Supernatural Superbeautiful foundation from Philosophy is a healthy, hybrid product that brings colour, coverage, nutrition and SPF20, in the one handy little tube. It's packed with natural, plant-based minerals and vitamins, free of parabens and phthalates, and gives great even coverage that looks red-carpet flawless, yet very natural. Worth trying, it costs 25.60 at John Lewis and 23 on QVC.

Well-blended eye shadow is a red carpet essential. Spring colours are all about vibrancy and freshness and Benefit's new Velvet Eyeshadows glide on to perfection. With six fruit shades to choose from, they costs 13.50 each, on the Benefit counters this month.
