Bibby holds off rivals in Ryedale showdown

National Circuit Race Champion Ian Bibby (NFTO) stormed to victory in the Ryedale Grand Prix yesterday, as the Motorpoint Grand Prix Series brought some of the country's top road racers to Yorkshire.

After several early breaks had been pulled back, the race came down to a bunch sprint finish where 29-year-old Bibby from Preston edged himself out in front.

In the women’s Ryedale Grand Prix – which was the final round of the National Road Series – champion Nikki Juniper (Ford Ecoboost) secured her third consecutive victory in the race when she sprinted home at the end of the women’s gruelling 58-mile race.

The Essex 34-year-old was part of a nine-rider break which got clear towards the end of the race, and she held on impressively to take the win and seal a superb Series triumph, with Annasley Park (Team Breeze) finishing second and Alice Sharpe (SunSport Velo) coming home in third.

In time trialling, North Yorkshire also played host to the National 100-mile Championships, and it was Army captain Ryan Perry (Langdale Lightweights) who took the win, covering the course near Kirklevington in 3.23.52. John Dewey (Team Bottrill) was second but had the satisfaction of leading Teal Bottrill to a new national team record.

Hessle’s Joel Wainman (SSLL RT) was the pick of the local riders in 10th place.

The women’s title went to British TT champion Hayley Simmonds (AeroCoach) with 3.46.37, almost three minutes ahead of Angela Hibbs (Fusion RT).

Harrogate Nova’s Eleanor Haresign placed seventh, while York Cycleworks’ Jessica Bacon was 10th.
