Blake Morrison came to national prominence in the 1980s as author of, amongst other poems, The Ballad of The Yokrshire Ripper.
Later, and no less controversially, he wrote a study of the murder of two-year-old James Bulger in Liverpool, in which he questioned the media's demonisation of the two killers.
The film of his memoirs, And When Did You Last See Your Father?, features Colin Firth and Jim Broadbent.
South of The River, 17.99, is published by Chatto and Windus, ISBN: 0701180463.
