Vernon Scannell, spent the last 25 years of his life in Otley, where this programme was recorded.
In the podcast, fellow poets Peter Porter and Kit Wright, together with members of Scannell's family and close friends, celebrate his life and work - from an impoverished childhood, through boxing, drinking, teaching and friendship to love and war.
The hour-long recording includes readings and reminiscences, and is a unique testament to Scannell's work.

Vernon Scannell, who died in 2007, published poetry from the 1950s up to the last year of his life and was the recipient of the Heinemann Award for Literature and the Cholmondely Award.
In addition to his poetry, he wrote poems for younger readers, novels, autobiography and criticism, and reviewed poetry for Ambit magazine and The Sunday Telegraph.
He served in the Army during World War II, including during the Normandy Landings, and twice deserted. He was an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and was awarded a Civil List Pension for Services to Literature.
The Ilkley Literature Festival event was presented in association with The Friends of Vernon Scannell.
