Food Matters: New look for sloe liqueurs

Malton's sloe gin-producing company SLOEmotion has undergone an innovative re-branding.

Managing director Jonathan Curtoys says: "After extensive market research, we decided to introduce a brighter colour scheme to our labels and to colour code our product lines – the gin-based products have a purple label, the whisky-based products have gold labels and the vodka-based products have red labelling. We've put a greater emphasis on our brand name 'SLOEmotion', giving us easier shelf recognition and an increase in brand awareness."

All SLOEmotion's liqueurs are made using hand-picked wild sloes and are produced in the traditional way using high concentrations of fruit to ensure a fabulous flavour.

SLOEmotion products can be purchased from.sloemotion.com or by calling 0844 800 1911. Or visit them at the Great Yorkshire Show in Harrogate, North Yorkshire from July 4 to 16 and the CLA Game Fair at Belvoir Castle, Lincolnshire from July 24 to 26. They are also stocked in Fodder the new farm shop on the Yorkshire Showground.

Crisp oil to be turned into fuel

With sales up by over 28 per cent year on year and increased manufacturing, to keep up with orders, Yorkshire Crisps has decided to reuse its vegetable oil to help the environment by producing bio-fuel.

Premium crisp manufacturer Yorkshire Crisps is working in partnership with Phoenix Fuels, which prides itself on developing sustainable bio-fuels by re-cycling food products. The bio-fuel will be used to power the lorries which deliver parsnips to the factory from the farm. These lorries then collect the vegetable oil to take back to the farm where it is manufactured into bio-fuel.

Phoenix Fuels has been established for three years, and recently installed a new agri bio fuel production plant.
