Dom Joly was born in Beirut and is fluent in Arabic and French. After university, where he got a first-class degree in Arabic and International Politics, he became a diplomat and political researcher, enjoying spells at the European Commission, the BBC and ITN.

He became a TV performer after first working on a Channel 4 comedy series as a researcher.

He currently writes columns for national newspapers and presents a series for Channel five called The Complainers.
