On the grapevine
Bon Coeur Wines will hold a tasting at Terrington Village Hall, near Castle Howard, on Thursday, July 2, between 6pm and 9.30pm. Tickets are free but you need to ring in advance, 01765 688200. On the same evening, Latitude of The Calls in Leeds will be in the Piazza by Anthony at the Corn Exchange with around 40 wines open for tasting. Once again, tickets are free but you need to reserve your place by ringing 0113 2453393.
Cloudy Bay, again
It seems that many drinkers are still charmed by the cachet that is Cloudy Bay but Robert Hoult of Hoults Wine Merchants in Huddersfield (01484 510700) is convinced that Dog Point is just as good. He is offering the 2008 Cloudy Bay (less good vintage) at the same price as Dog Point 2007 (better vintage). Both are priced at 13.95. Buy Dog Point – it is great.
Changes to ros
Until recently, all ros wine sold in the EU had to be made as a ros, that is from red grapes, fermented for a time on the skins to develop a pink colour. Recently, countries outside the EU have been allowed to add a dollop of red wine into white to get the same colour. Now the EU has ruled this practice illegal. This means that quality wines such as Provence ross will be protected in the market.
