Podcast: Long Lost - Harlan Coben
CRIME writer Harlan Coben delights in delving into the ordinary, simple, good things in life.
But then he positively revels in twisting them into a rip-roaring rollercoaster of a story that will keep you up all night and leave you gasping as the final page is turned.
His latest bestseller Long Lost is no exception and sees sports and entertainment agent Myron Bolitar grappling with an international conspiracy that is bigger and more deadly than anything he has had to face before.
In this OutLoud interview, Coben discusses his fondness for his leading man, why he'd be rubbish at any other job, and how his family life influences his work.

Coben began writing during his senior college years, leaping into the deep end with an attempt to write a novel rather than follow the family path into law.
After a shaky start, during which he worked in the travel industry, he earned himself a publishing deal and his writing career began to take shape.
His first Myron Bolitar book, the critically acclaimed and award-winning Deal Breaker, was published in 1995. Six books followed in quick succession, Drop Shot (1996), Fade Away (1996), Back Spin (1997), One False Move (1998), The Final Detail (1999) and Darkest Fear (2000).
With seven Bolitar books under his belt, Coben decided to break with the formula with standalone novel Tell No One, also published in 2000.
The story won a raft of top awards and rocketed him to the bestseller lists around the globe. Last year it was turned into a highly successful and award-winning movie, starring Kristin Scott Thomas, and is currently undergoing a Hollywood makeover, produced by Kathleen Turner.
Since Tell No One, Coben has published six other bestselling standalone novels, but returns to the Myron Bolitar series in Long Lost. He has also written for a number of US newspapers and magazines, has recently finished work on a screenplay for a new US drama, and is underway with his next book.
He lives in New Jersey with his wife and their four children.
Long Lost, 18.99, is published by Orion, ISBN: 978-0752885223
