Podcast: Listening In - Kevin Chandler
AFTER years of helping clients overcome their own personal difficulties, Patrick Chime's problems are only just getting started.
The painful truth is, however, that he's the last one to realise it and it's an error that could cost him his life.
In his debut novel Listening In, Kevin Chandler offers a compelling glimpse of what happens behind the therapist's closed door.
In this OutLoud interview, Chandler discusses the role of therapy, why paying for advice may not bear the results you want, and his compulsion to tell stories.

Chandler began his working career as a teacher. After a spell as a Samaritan in the 1970s he trained as a counsellor and for 20 years was one of the main trainers of Relate counsellors in the country.
Listening In was written over three years, during a time in which he stopped working to concentrate on his fiction. He has also previously written short stories, including 50 Minute Hour which was published in the anthology 8 Hours (by Legend Press) last year.
Chandler lives with his wife in Holmfirth where he runs a small practice of counselling and therapy specialising in marital, relationship and sexual issues. He is already underway with his second novel.
Chandler will be at Waterstones in Leeds talking about and reading from his novel at 6.30pm on Thursday 23 April. Attendance is free but booking is essential.
Listening In, 7.99, is published by Accent Press, ISBN: 978-1906373658
