Tell it to the Bees - Fiona Shaw
AS A writer who cut her teeth with a powerful study of her own battle against post-natal depression, it's no surprise Fiona Shaw is unafraid of tackling difficult subjects with her fiction.
Her latest novel, Tell it to the Bees, tells the story of two women in a 1950s town who must decide if they are prepared to risk everything for the chance of happiness in their secret love affair.
In this interview, Shaw discusses her first book Out of Me, how her own childhood interests in insects became woven into Tell it to the Bees, her fascination with social history, and why she could never write a crme novel.

Shaw began writing her first book following her treatment for post-natal depression after the birth of her second chld.
What initially began as a way of regaining the lost memories ended with the critically acclaimed and disturbing study, Out of Me, which was first published in 1997. As well as aiding her recovery, the book fuelled in Shaw a deeper love of writing and she turned to fiction.
Her first novel was published in 2003, The Sweetest Thing, followed by The Picture She Took in 2005.
Shaw lives in York with her family and is underway with her fourth novel. She is also currently the Royal Literary Fund Writing Fellow at the University of York, based within the English department offering advice and support for students.
