Pupils from Swinefleet Primary school near Goole launch paper aeroplanes at an event at Doncaster Racecourse yesterday to mark the centenary of Britain's first air show.
More than 1,000 schoolchildren from across Yorkshire gathered at the racecourse, which staged the show in October 1909. An exhibition from the Yorkshire Air Museum was on display, detailing the first show.
Other attractions included more than 30 workshops for pupils to get involved in, including the Create Maths unit from Sheffield Hallam University, the Star Centre from Keighley and team-building activities from the Royal Air Force. Director of the Yorkshire Air Museum Ian Reed said: "This unique commission by Yorkshire Forward has enabled the Yorkshire Air Museum to bring together education partnerships and organisations from right across Britain into Yorkshire and to show just what we are capable of in this region."
