DEVELOPERS behind a plan to turn farmland into an "employment park" have withdrawn the scheme after residents mounted an opposition campaign.

Members of the Thorne Against Bradholme protest group were against what they described as the "huge steel sheds" included in the project, one of which was about one kilometre in length.

Yesterday, a spokesman for developers PPG Land and The Warmfi
eld Group, confirmed the companies were ditching the idea, but said bosses would submit a revised planning application.

Plans submitted to Doncaster Council in February claimed that the park, consisting of two "distribution buildings", would create up to 2,300 jobs on the site on the outskirts of Thorne.

The application but was fiercely opposed by residents and countryside campaigners.

Simon Dixon, director of PPG Land said: "Throughout the consultation process we have worked closely with Doncaster Council and have engaged with residents and stakeholders.

"We have now withdrawn the planning application and are continuing to amend the scheme to take into consideration the feedback we have received since the application was submitted.

"We remain committed to investing in Thorne and believe that the additional amendments made to the plans will further improve the proposals for Bradholme Employment Park."
