A NEW business has been set up to deliver Bradford curries to the nation's doorsteps.
Realbradfordcurry.com will take orders from anywhere in mainland Britain and deliver the freshly cooked food within 48 hours.
The venture has been launched by Bradford businesswoman Jan Smithies and Richard Richardson, who helped to develop the Harr
y Ramsden brand.
The pair have worked with a team of chefs, restaurants and home cooks from the city to develop a menu of curries.
Ms Smithies said: "Bradford has a well-deserved national reputation for being the home of fantastic South Asian food.
"We set up realbradfordcurry.com in order to make it easy for everyone to buy our food, all prepared in Bradford to the highest standards. We scoured the city to find the best restaurants, home cooks and caterers. These people – our 'Curry Heroes' – have helped create an innovative menu which really reflects the diversity and vibrancy of South Asian cooking. Now we can take that Bradford magic to the entire country.'
"All of our food is made from scratch by a family firm. The food is flash frozen as soon as it is cooked. If you put a curry in your freezer at home the balance of oils and water can be distorted but with flash freezing you freeze the freshness.
"The embryonic idea for realbradfordcurry.com came from my discussions with Asian home cooks and restaurateurs.
"I became increasingly aware that a Bradford curry was unique to Yorkshire and something that had a wide appeal outside the county. Two of our first orders have been from the far reaches of Cornwall and Scotland."
The duo have spent the past 18 months carrying out market research to assess the demand for Bradford curry and to develop a new menu that includes 16 dishes.
The menu has been developed with the help of restaurant chefs Tahir Chowdrey and Omar Khan, banquet caterer Poonam Joshi, home cooks Ulfat Riaz, Assima Mughal and Farook Lone from eastern bread specialists Mubarak's and Saroj Joshi who sells samosas and sauces.
