A NEW economic task force is to be created in Wakefield to help businesses through the current global slowdown.
Wakefield Council announced the plans yesterday which will see it and others come up with practical ways to ease the burden on local businesses.

Wakefield's economic task force will ensure up-to-date advice and assistance for individuals and business is co-ordinated and communicated effectively. It will also monitor impacts and consider actions to be taken to bolster confidence in the district.

Co-ordinated by district development agency Wakefield First, membership of the task force will also include the Wakefield Council leader councillor Peter Box and the council's chief executive Joanne Roney, Business Link, Job Centre Plus, Citizens Advice Bureau, Wakefield and District Housing and Government Office.

The group aims to meet before Christmas.
