TWO streets in a Rotherham community could be given a facelift at a cost of £150,000 which would also reduce pressure on car parking in the area.
Rotherham Council will decide today whether to go ahead with the project in Scarsdale Street and Clarence Street, Dinnington, which are described as having a "tired" feel.
At present there is high demand for street parking and that results in some
motorists parking on soft verges, creating maintenance problems for the council.
As a result, councillors are being asked to decide whether to go ahead with the scheme, which would involve the installation of low kerbs and hard verges to allow cars to be parked more safely.
The scheme would also involve the resurfacing of footpaths and road surfaces, with the installation of bollards and a new street-lighting scheme aimed at making residents feel more secure.
Householders in the area have been asked for their opinions and the results will be put to councillors before they make a decision. If the scheme proceeds, it is expected work will start next month.
It has been designed to compliment work already done in the area where open land at Doe Quarry Lane, near the northern end of Scarsdale Street, has been landscaped and had new fencing and street furniture installed.
