A GALA concert in the Royal Hall on Monday will form part of Harrogate International Festival's celebrations of 40 years of festival music in the venue, which reopened recently after an £8.7m refurbishment.
Last year the festival found a partner in the interior design company James Brindley for celebrations marking Edward Elgar's 150th anniversary.
Company founder Mark Grafton is the great nephew of the composer. The affiliation has continued and The
James Brindley of Harrogate Royal Hall Gala Concert was made possible with the firm's support.
Elgar conducted the first performance of his Second Symphony outside London at the Royal Hall in 1911, so it is fitting that his local family connect-ions are being celebrated there.
James Brindley has also sponsored the newly restored Kursaal walkway inside the Royal Hall. It has been named The Elgar Promenade.
In a similarly rare performance outside London, the Academy of St Martin in the Fields will be conducted by Sir Neville Marriner for the Gala concert programme.
Mr Grafton said: "We are delighted to help the Festival in bringing the finest classical music to Harrogate with this superlative gala concert."
Festival tickets are available on 0845 130 8840, at the Harro-gate International Centre Box Office, Kings Road, or online at www.harrogate-festival.org.uk.
