These budding actors were among dozens of hopefuls who took part in auditions at West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds at the weekend for roles in a musical version of George Orwell's Animal Farm.

The Playhouse held auditions on Saturday looking for young people
aged between 16 and 25 to take on the roles of tyrannical pig Napoleon's guard dogs in Peter Hall's production this autumn.

The new version of Orwell's classic novel will feature masks, music and movement, and the successful candidates will get the chance to work with acclaimed director Nikolai Foster and a cast of twelve talented musicians.

Movement director Gary Lloyd said: ''The auditions went really well. We had 34 hopefuls which was a good turnout.

"We were not looking for Shep types from Blue Peter but something a bit more raw and wolf-like. Three guys and a young lady have been chosen and they will be getting a call from us today.

"They will need a lot of stamina as it is quite a demanding role physically."
