Gun raider threatens betting shop worker

CASH was stolen from a York bookmakers yesterday after a member of staff was threatened with what appeared to be a handgun.
The incident happened in the Coral bookmakers in Beckfield Lane, York, at about 12.15pm when a man approached the counter of the otherwise empty premises.

North Yorkshire Police say the man threatened and demanded cash from a male member of staff before making off in the direction of Ostman Road and Viking Road.

The member of staff was uninjured, but was deeply shocked by the incident and required treatment from paramedics.

Firearms Support Unit officers attended and police investigations are continuing.

The man was described as white, "skinny" build and about 5ft 8in tall. He was wearing a grey-coloured hoodie top covering his face and black tracksuit bottoms.
