A CHARITY started in memory of a Bradford mother who died of a brain tumour is to benefit from this year's Leeds Half-Marathon.
The Sunday, September 7, event was officially launched yesterday in Millennium Square by Leeds Rhinos star Jamie Jones-Buchanan.
This year's Gaz de France Leeds Half-Marathon will have a different feel, as it has moved from being run in spring to
autumn.
This is to make way for the 'Run for All' Leeds 10k in honour of the late Jane Tomlinson, which takes place on June 22.
The half-marathon is open to anyone aged 17 and over. There is also a family fun run and a corporate challenge for teams of six employees.
All the runners will be asked to raise sponsorship money for official event charity Andrea's Gift, a Leeds-based organisation which looks at brain tumour research and support.
It was started after the death of Andrea Key, who died from a brain tumour in 2002. Fundraiser Carol Robertson, of Andrea's Gift, said: "We are absolutely delighted to be chosen as the charity for the Gaz de France Leeds Half-Marathon. It will be an amazing event and such an opportunity for the charity to be seen so widely across the city. "
For more information or to receive an application form go to www.leeds.gov.uk/runleeds or call Leeds City Council's Sport Development Unit on 0113 395 0001. Deadline for entries is August 8.
