NEWBY Hall has become so famous for its gardens that it is starting a garden design course for beginners.
The Hall, near Ripon, is teaming up with York-based garden designer and Chelsea Flower Show winner Lizzie Tulip.

The 25-acre garden at Newby Hall, one of the UK's finest Adam houses, will be the backdrop and inspiration for those taking part.

The £480 course will run over four consecutive Thursdays in September and all equipment will be provided.

Ms Tulip said: "This course is designed as a foundation for first timers, who may be thinking of doing some designing but are not sure where to start.

"It will clearly explain through practical exercises how to draw a garden design scheme and give a thorough insight into the process of creating a garden to the detailed design stage, either for a personal project or client."

Ms Tulip is currently working on a garden at Wilstrop Lodge Farm in Moor Monkton.

Details of the course can be found on the Hall's website – www.newbyhall.com.
