This dramatic "rescue" of a crane driver in Leeds city centre had heads turning yesterday – but it was part of a training exercise.
on the tower crane at Leeds University's school of earth and the environment in an exercise by BAM Construction.

A company spokesman said: "The construction team cannot rely on the West Yorkshire Fire Brigade as the sole point of rescue because they can only attend in limited circumstances.

"This means that the construction team must have a rescue procedure in place."

The exercise involved six workers using a Gotcha CRD rescue kit, which is used to lower injured workers from the top of the crane to the ground.
