Farmers and land owners in the Yorkshire Dales are being urged to join forces to boost the recovery of black grouse by joining the first English Black Grouse Group.

The organisation, which aims to encourage the bird to return to its former haunts, is launched on Tuesday, July 22, at the Buck Inn, Reeth, from 11am by the North Pennines Black Grouse Recovery Project.

Many parts of North Yorkshire's upland areas are teeming with grouse but these are the smaller red grouse which thrive on heather moorland, while the black variety live around the edges.

The black grouse project is a partnership between a number of organisations.

The July 22 event is free but booking is essential. Contact Kim Anderton, at the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust on 01833 622208 or email: kanderton@gct.org.uk
