FINISHING touches are being put to the car park of a Calderdale crematorium following work which has doubled the number of spaces available.

Work to extend the car park at Park Wood Crematorium, Park Road, Elland, means there are now 80 spaces.

Funeral services manager Paul Stubbs said the crematorium was built in 1956, when fewer people had cars.

In addition to the car park extension, contractors have installed disabled access on the route from the car park into the crematorium and chapel.

Coun Paul Rogan welcomed the extra parking spaces. "On the occasions I have been there I have observed that there were insufficient parking facilities and this could create tension at a sensitive time.''
