A SERIES of autumn concerts at Sheffield University begins on Tuesday, October 14, with a performance from pianist Angela Brownridge.
The concert, which takes place at Firth Hall on Western Bank, is the first of 12 evening concerts to be held at the university over the next few weeks.
As well as featuring the classic music of Beethoven, Debussy and Chopin, the series will also give people the chance to hear a variety of world music.
On Tuesday, October 21, the university will host the London Sinfonietta Uganda Project. The performance will be followed by a short workshop, giving members of the audience the opportunity to make their own African-style music.
The concert series also celebrates the centenary of the birth of the composer Olivier Messiaen. The first of several centenary concerts takes place on Sunday, November 30, where pianist and Messiaen expert Peter Hill will be joined by members of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra in a performance of Quartet for the End of Time.
There are also free lunchtime concerts at the drama studio in Shearwood Road.
Tickets for evening concerts cost £8 for adults, £5 for senior citizens and £2.50 for students.
