CONTRACTORS are expected to start work on a £3.1m upgrade of the dam at Yorkshire Water's Agden Reservoir, west of Sheffield, later this month.
Engineers said it is part of a much bigger ongoing improvement programme which has seen work progress at locations including nearby Redmires and three West Yorkshire reservoirs.

Yorkshire Water's project manager Tim Dyke said: "We would like to assure our customers that the work we're carrying out is entirely routine and there is no need for concern...

"We will be working on the wave wall and spillway but the project simply ensures that Agden remains well within significant safety margins and is not driven by a particular problem or fault.

"The work will have no impact on local water supplies, although extra traffic may cause some limited inconvenience on the roads for which we'd like to apologise in advance."

The public footpath around the reservoir will remain open.

It is hoped that the project will be completed by next spring.
