Leeds Council's road safety officer David Glanville test-drives a low-emission scooter in the city that could be the authority's transport of the future as it looks to add more eco-friendly vehicles to its fleet.
The low-carbon Vectrix electric scooter is powered by a 21-kilowatt motor. The battery gives a range of up to 50 miles on a single charge, – which can cost as little as 20p – and it has a top speed of 62mph. Qualifying as tax exempt, it is designed to be used in urban areas and for commuting, and several police forces already use it.
Councillor Andrew Carter, executive member for transport and travel, said the authority was looking to add a number of low-carbon vehicles to its fleet, including those powered by electric.
