THE Premier League and football and rugby stars have signed up to a new initiative aimed at developing young people's enterprise skills through sport.
The Hull Youth Enterprise Partnership is launching a programme that aims to capitalise on young people's passion for sport to improve their understanding of business.

Hull City and the Hull FC Foundation are among the groups lending their support
to a programme that will see youngsters set sports-related business challenges. These could include designing football and rugby strips or working in teams to develop products to market and sell.

Incentives such as match tickets to Premier League games and visits from sports stars will encourage participants to complete the course.

Health Secretary and Hull MP Alan Johnson said: "As the patron of the Hull Youth Enterprise Partnership and a football and rugby fan I am pleased to announce that this impressive coalition is seeking to establish an enterprise programme that will deliver a meaningful and relevant enterprise education to young people.

"With similar successful schemes in Middlesbrough, Aston Villa, Blackburn Rovers and Manchester City, it means secondary school pupils in Hull will also have an opportunity to develop their business and entrepreneurial skills."

Stephen Logan, careers co-ordinator at Malet Lambert School, said it would help draw many young people back into education.

He said: "We are very keen to be involved with this new programme.

"By using the contexts of football and rugby, subjects will be brought to life for students and the programme will improve their confidence and adaptability.

"Receiving an accredited qualification for successfully completing the course will be of real value to students and will help many re-engage with education."
