Construction students in Bradford have embarked on their final week of the first ConstructionSkills Apprenticeships summer school.

A group of 27 students, including Lottie Clough, 17, signed up to the six-week programme based at Bradford College, which has given them the opportunity to train in carpentry, joinery, brickwork and tiling. The students are now gaining in work experience locally.

Sarah Fenton, ConstructionSkills Apprenticeships manager in the region, said: "This is only the second time that ConstructionSkills has run a scheme like this in the Bradford area, and the response has been very positive.

"Apprentices are still essential to the future of the construction industry and to the future of the UK economy. Despite the current slowdown in the residential housing market, areas such as social housing and work on infrastructures are thriving – so now is the time for young people to get the right construction training so that they can enter the industry whilst the demand for work in these areas is still high."
