PARENTS in Doncaster face being fined as part of a clampdown on parking outside schools after council officers decided the school run was becoming too dangerous for children.
From September 1, Doncaster Council will introduce a new traffic regulation order in an "effort to improve traffic congestion and safety around schools during the busy drop-off and collection times".
The new regulations will legally prevent any road user from parking on the yellow zigzag markings visible outside all schools between 8am and 9.30 and from 3pm until 4.30pm, Monday to Friday.
The council's director of neighbourhoods, Jane Miller, said: "The car journey to and from school can become dangerous if people park thoughtlessly outside school entrances or become distracted whilst at the wheel.
"We do not want to see any child hurt in Doncaster and these new, tougher regulations will prevent accidents caused by irresponsible parking or driving."
New signs will be displayed at school sites at the start of the new term and council staff will be out on patrol to remind residents of the changes.
