THE Avenues area of Hull has long been a haven for the city's artistic community and residents are inviting people to take a closer look at their activities with a series of events this weekend.
Ward councillor John Robinson wrote to his constituents inviting them to showcase their talents and decided to organise an arts, crafts and hobbies fair after receiving more than 100 replies.
And to encourage the spirit of independence, Hull Counc
il's business support team and Businesslink Yorkshire will be giving free advice on how to turn bedroom hobbies into viable business ideas at Princes Avenue Methodist Church tomorrow.
Topics including planning permission, business and council tax rates, funding and how to find premises will be covered.
Coun Robinson said: "Apart from showcasing the artistic side of Avenue Ward, Hull City Council will be there offering help and advice to people who are thinking of setting up a business and want to work from home."
The fair, which runs from 11am to 4pm, is also being held at the Church on the Way and Artlink, which are also on Princes Avenue.
The exhibition coincides with the launch of the annual Avenue Open Gardens event on Sunday, believed to be one of the biggest of its kind.
More than 50 gardens are being opened to the public in the area, including Richmond Street allotments.
There will also be plant stalls, refreshments, music events and a children's activities.
A free hail-n-ride bus will be on call to carry ticket holders from site to site, with the cost being met by an unnamed sponsor.
Tickets cost £3 and are valid for the event's conclusion on Sunday, July 13. Accompanied children are admitted free.
